Noob here who has only used soft synths and Ableton up to this point. I've read the rules and the guides so I hope this question is okay. Anyway, I'm looking at buying the new Electribe or some combination of all or 3/4 of the Volcas. What would be the pros/cons over each other? I was thinking about getting a Minibrute, but then I realized what I'd really like in hardware right now is to be able to make fully fleshed-out tracks.

As far as I can tell I can do this with both the Electribe or by linking the Volcas, but I can't figure out which option is better suited to what. Any opinions? Will one setup sound better than the other? Anything would appreciated.

Thanks =) Edit: I guess one thing is the Electribe has effects. If you want to use all hardware and no external/software sequencer, I don't think the Volcas are for you. They all have sequencers, but you can't chain patterns or store very much.

The Electribe is much more suited to making full songs. One of the selling points is its ability to rough out a song and export to Ableton. Also, the Volcas have a very limited range of sounds compared to the Electribe.

If you like working with diverse sounds/instruments, you might not like the constraints of the Volcas. That said, I like my Volca Keys and I don't have much interest in an Electribe. Thanks for the reply. I think I understand everything you said. Well first off, I actually don't mind using my computer in conjunction with the hardware. Being able to chain patterns isn't necessarily essential.

I don't know. I want to be able to make full songs.I think. I mean, 16-steps also sounds like plenty of fun and room for creativity. Diversity of sounds really is a big push toward the Electribe to me. But let's say you have the Electribe and the Volca Keys making the same type of sound.does the Volca sound better? Is it noticeable? As you can probably tell, I don't really know what I want (I just want to play with it all).

Tomorrow I'm probably going to go back to thinking I should just use this ~$500 on a single synth. Maybe a Mopho, Minibrute, an MS2000.whatever I can get my hands on. Feel free to persuade me to move away from the Electribe and the whole hardware music production studio thing lol. You need to have some idea what you're shooting for. Do you want something to toy around with or something more robust? Do you want a monophonic instrument or a device that can produce a whole song?
